AI models & BYOK
Pick the model that sells, stays accurate and fits the budget
RytherOS lets you choose the AI model behind each agent. Max is the default for revenue conversations. Mini is the lower-cost option for high-volume inboxes. Pro runs on Anthropic Claude and is the tier to use when you bring your own Anthropic key (BYOK).

Why don't AI leaderboards pick the right sales model?
Because they test something else. Public benchmarks ask a model trivia questions, one at a time. A sales conversation is a customer pushing back on their fifth message, asking about your prices and service area, or switching languages halfway through. A model can top a leaderboard and still invent a discount you never offered.
What matters in a revenue conversation?
Three things decide whether a model earns its place. Does it move the customer toward the next step? Does it stay inside what your business actually says? And what does a conversation cost once everything behind the reply is counted?
What happens behind every reply?
A reply is the part the customer sees. Behind it, smaller AI jobs find the right knowledge-base answer, spot spam, tag the contact, pull out a name and email, and decide whether a conversation should close. On Max and Mini, that work is covered by the per-action rate. On a raw model API, each job is billed on its own.
Where do cheap models break?
Cheap models usually fail in two ways that cost real money. Confident inventions: the model agrees with a customer's wrong assumption or makes up a policy. Leaked machinery: internal notes or code show up in the reply. Neither appears on a leaderboard. Both appear in your inbox.
What is RytherOS Max?
Max is the RytherOS in-house model and the default for revenue work. It is tuned to stay inside your business instructions and knowledge base, and it needs no provider account or API key. Use it anywhere a wrong price, policy or promise could cost you a job.
When should you use Mini?
Use Mini for high-volume, lower-stakes inboxes. It comes from the same family as Max at a lower rate. The trade-offs are a higher chance of a small mistake and a lighter memory in long conversations.
What is BYOK and when does it make sense?
BYOK means bringing your own Anthropic API key so Anthropic bills you directly for Pro usage. It is available on Scale and Command for eligible accounts and supports official Anthropic keys only. Max and Mini never use your key. BYOK is a billing choice, not a discount: background work is billed per token on your key, so a reply usually costs more than on Max.
How should you test a model before choosing?
Replay a handful of your real inquiries: a price question, a service-area check, an objection, an out-of-scope request and a handoff. Check the facts, the tone and whether the handoff fired. We can walk through this with you during setup.

| Pro with your own key | 0 RytherOS credits for AI replies | Your Anthropic account | Teams that want AI usage on their own Anthropic bill | Scale, Command, where eligible |
An AI action includes replies, tool calls such as booking or a human alert, chat evaluations, summaries and auto-tagging. Channel, carrier and messaging fees are separate.
Frequently asked questions
Which AI model should a sales chatbot start with?
Start with Max. It is the RytherOS default for revenue conversations. Move a specific agent to Mini only after you test it on your own conversations.
Can we use OpenAI, Gemini or another provider with RytherOS?
Not through BYOK. It supports official Anthropic keys only. Max and Mini already cover the low-cost case.
Is bringing our own Anthropic key cheaper?
Usually not. Your key pays for every background job per token, so a reply usually costs more than on Max. Use BYOK when you need AI usage billed to your own Anthropic account.
What still uses RytherOS credits when our key is connected?
Agents on Max or Mini, Lead Finder and automations. Channel fees are separate either way. If your key fails, replies pause unless you turn on fallback to credits.
Will switching AI tiers break an agent?
No. You can change an agent's tier at any time. The change applies to new replies and to the credits each one uses.
