Custom functions
Let conversations use current business data
Custom Functions connect a RytherOS agent to an approved external system while a conversation is in progress. Instead of relying on a static answer for a changing fact, the agent can request the data or action you have configured.
Connect one specific action
A function can check an order status, look up availability, create a CRM record, or perform another defined action through an API. Give the function a clear purpose, define what the agent may send, and test the result. Only assign it to the agents that need it.
Keep the boundary explicit
Function access depends on the account plan and the external system. Configuration should include authentication, execution limits, error handling, and a human fallback. A live lookup is useful only when the source is authoritative and the result is understandable to the customer.
Frequently asked question
How is this different from a webhook?
A Custom Function is invoked by an agent during a conversation. A webhook is typically sent when an event occurs. They solve different parts of the workflow.
